INTRODUCTION
In 2016 B.S. (1959), this 40 bedded Hospital started with
maternity services only. With this humble start, it has now grown not only in
bed strengths but in various special services for the Reproductive Health of
women in general. This short write-up reminiscence along the path of development
it took till now, to have 310 beds along with other speical services. Maternity
care is the key component of "Safe Motherhood Programme". Now the goal is to see
it grow further into an "National Institute of Gynaecology and Obstetrics
(NIGO)" together with neonatology. After all, "Motherhood" is incomplete without
a healthy baby. This hospital is recognised by UNICEF as a "Baby Friendly
Hospital". The hospital is also recognised for registration from General Medical
Council, London. Two Senior House Officer (SHO) posts of the hospital is
recognised by Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, London. We all
are grateful to those people who had the vision in the bygone days to put their
dream into reality, in the form of this Maternity Hospital.
At the initiative taken by Paropakar (Philanthropic
non-governmental organization for service to the community), Late King Mahendra
(then HRH Crown Prince) contributed fund for a 40 bedded Maternity Hospital on
the land donated byLate Gen. Singha Shamsher Jung Bahadur Rana. This hospital is
situtated on teh bank of Bagmati river in Thapathali and is built in the memory
of the late Crown Princess, Her Royal Highness Shree Panch Indra Rajya Laxmi
Devi Shah.
